Sorry for the confusion---the PPV meeting is this Thursday, Jan. 17th!!!!!!
IS THE BATTLE TO RESCIND THE 6 MONTH LEASE RESTRICTION OVER???
NOWe all wish that this could be the case, it just isn't. Yes, the Board did vote on January 8th to pass a resolution to rescind, but that was a preliminary vote. After a 30 day member comment period, the United Board votes again. Could the Board members change their votes? Yes. Due to a last minute effort to sway the United Board, the Board's attorney threw out the idea that if U-84-84 was rescinded, the renting policy would revert to what was in place before U-84-84 was passed - and that would mean no rentals, PERIOD. This confused even the voting United Board members. However, she did not provide any documentation of this fact and we have located the documents and find no such justification for this interpretation. The only documents that mention any restriction on rentals are in the HUD agreement, which is no longer germane. There is no mention of rental restrictions in earlier Bylaws or Occupancy Agreements. The United Board's Legal Council is pressing an 11th hour stunt, but thus far, has been unable to factually support this position.
At this point, in our effort to have our community benefit by having the option to rent or not rent, the matter is still unsettled, and the opposition has not yet accepted defeat. Quite the contrary, we have heard that they are just getting started.
If you want to get rid of the 6 month lease restriction, this is what you need to do NOW! If we don't make ourselves heard now, we may not prevail at the final vote.
