Village Television has Moved (For Some)

Broadband services recently performed upgrades to the cable system. For some users, Village television moved to channel 54.3. If you are not able to view Village Television, you need to perform a channel scan. Unsure how to do this? Contact Broadband Customer Service at 949-837-2670 or grfbroadband@vmsinc.org. The channel migration did not affect the channel lineup of set top boxes.

  Don't Freak Out, Shake Out!

On October 19, Laguna Woods Village will join millions of Americans in the Great California Shakeout drill, an annual opportunity to practice how to be safe during an earthquake. Residents are encouraged to “drop, cover, and hold on” for one minute at 10:19 a.m., and to review the Shakeout website at www.shakeout.org for other earthquake safety tips.

Good Neighbor Building and Block Captains will be donning their emergency vests, checking on  neighbors and producing a simulated earthquake damage and injury report. This report will be forwarded to Village Management Services, who will be conducting a tabletop exercise using their newly updated Emergency Operations Plan.

If you want more information about the Shakeout or are interested in joining the Disaster Preparedness Force, email the Security Division at chief@vmsinc.org or call 949-268-2356.

  Are You Prepared?

Be Prepared: The Disaster Preparedness Task Force offers free training for residents to help their family and neighbors in the event of an emergency or disaster. The sessions require no pre-registration; however, for First Aid and CPR/AED sessions, if a certification of training is desired, an extended certification session is conducted at the end of the two hour information presentation and you must pre-register by sending an email with your name todisasterprep@vmsinc.org at least three days before the session.

The next CPR/AED Training takes place Tuesday November 14, 2017 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. at Clubhouse 7.

Be a Good Neighbor: Have you ever considered serving as a Building or Block “Captain”? The position is a great way to stay involved, meet new people, and contribute to a friendly and safe community. Captains play an important part in assisting during a disaster, by checking on the welfare of neighbors and reporting injuries and property damage to the assigned Reporting Center.

Join the Disaster Preparedness Task Force at their upcoming introductory Good Neighbor Captain Training Meeting on November 21. Lean how to become a Captain, how to be ready for disasters: what to do, what supplies you should have in place, and how to assist Village Security Department in reducing crime.

The Captain Training takes place Tuesday, November 21 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Clubhouse 5. Questions? Call email disasterprep@vmsinc.org or call 949-268-2356.
